Feasibility

Feasibility Studies are the first step in attaining confidence that a ground coupled heating and cooling solution or Water Borehole is viable.

Aquifer Energy can provide a range of feasibility studies to suit your goals!

Hydrogeological Assessment

Aquifer Energy can provide a hydrogeological assessment of the aquifers below the site to determine their potential for providing heating and cooling, including flow rates and water quality that may be envisaged. A first pass look at how an open loop borehole system might look can be obtained. For more information visit the Hydrogeological Assessments Page

Surface Water System

Aquifer Energy can provide a desktop assessment of available surface water, including potential volumes and flow rates that could be envisaged. A first pass view of how a surface water system (open or closed loop) may look can be obtained.

Closed Loop Trenched System

Aquifer Energy can provide a thermogeological assessment of the soil and potential for a trenched closed loop system, including space available. A first pass view of how a closed loop trenched system may look can be obtained.

Deep Geothermal

Aquifer Energy can provide the feasibility of assessing Deep Sedimentary Aquifers which contain warmer water than the shallower systems through to fractured basement at increased depth. Aquifer Energy can also assist with the feasibility of repurposing abandoned or 'dry' oil and gas wells.

Thermo Geological Assessment

Aquifer Energy can provide a thermogeological assessment of the ground below the site to determine the likely thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity of the underlying geology. A first pass view of how a closed loop borehole system may look can be obtained.

Mine Water System

Flooded mines are an excellent potential source of water and Aquifer Energy can provide an initial desktop assessment of how the potential of these anthropogenic aquifers at the site location, if fortunate enough to be above an abandoned mine.

RIBA Stage System

Aquifer Energy is very familiar with the RIBA stages of work and can provide all works to coincide with the relevant RIBA stages. We offer outline sensibility checks for RIBA Stage 0 through to a more detailed feasibilty during RIBA Stages 1 and 2.

Prescribed Feasibility Studies

The Department for Education has a prescribed Ground Source Heat Pump Survey (TAS2021-DFE-XX-XX-T-X-152-Ground Source HeatPump Investigation Survey) which we are familiar with and can provide.
